“Giving back to the hospital that have helped your family is such a rewarding way to say thank you- and it allows others in their time of need, to benefit too.”

A dedicated father has raised over £17,000 for the Children’s Department at St Helier Hospital, continuing a legacy of fundraising in memory of his son Max, who passed away in 2016.

Daniel and his family spent six weeks at St Helier Hospital in 2015, where Max recovered between brain tumour surgeries. The compassionate care stays with them to this day. Following Max’s passing, the family made a promise- to give back to the hospitals and charities that supported them during the most difficult time of their lives.

“We made a promise to ourselves that we would fundraise for all the hospitals and charities that support us, to hopefully allow other families the opportunity to receive the support, care and love we did.”

To date, Daniel estimate they have raised over £200,000 supporting a wide range of causes, with all the funds raised being spent to benefit more families like his.

Most recently, Daniel hosted his annual charity golf day, held at Effingham Golf Club, raising £17,358 for Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity, specifically for the Children’s department. The event saw 25 teams take part with a day of sunshine, golf, and generosity.

“It’s a huge amount of work organising an event like this, but the day was incredible- the sun was shining and the support was overwhelming. The highlight is always the total raised. It’s amazing what people can do when they come together for a cause.”

Daniel, who works in a sector known for its charitable spirit, says his colleagues and contacts have played a crucial role in the success of these events over the years. He encourages others to think about giving back to their local hospital.

“It doesn’t matter how much you raise, the size of the event or the challenge you take on. Giving back to the hospital that have helped your family is such a rewarding way to say thank you- and it allows others in their time of need, to benefit too.”

Daniel’s fundraising stands as a touching tribute to Max and as a hospital we are so grateful for the funds that will allow us to support patients, their families and the staff who look after us all.
