Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity awarded £50,000 to deliver vital wellbeing support to NHS staff

Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity are supporting its critical Theatre teams with a dedicated comfort space to decompress between the dozens of surgeries they complete each day, thanks to a £50,000 grant from NHS Charities Together and NHS England.

The grant has been awarded as part of an £11 million programme – including a £5 million contribution from NHS England – and is one of 61 ambitious projects across England to receive funding from the programme since its launch in 2024.

Through this funding, Epsom Hospital will benefit from a brand-new wellbeing space dedicated to the hundreds of staff who work in Theatres delivering up to 30 surgeries each day.

From surgeons to anaesthetists and operating department practitioners, the space aims to give staff a designated place to pause throughout their intense shifts.

Kelly Stanford, Matron for Epsom Theatres and Day Surgery said:

“We are incredibly grateful to the Trust Charity for their support and NHS Charities Together and NHS England for this funding. I speak on behalf of all the team when I say how excited we are about this project which will enable us all to feel valued, decompress between surgeries and a place of comfort to take a pause when needed.”

Ellie Orton, CEO, NHS Charities Together, comments:

“Winter flu season may be ending, but with huge pressure on health services continuing to impact those who care for us, it’s vital that NHS staff receive the tools and support needed to look after their own health and wellbeing.

“We’re proud to be supporting NHS charities like Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity with funding that will make a positive difference to our hardworking staff and help support them before and after their intense shifts in Theatre.”
