Mary Seacole Unit staff take on sponsored walk to support patient wellbeing

This summer, 30 incredible staff members from the Mary Seacole Unit at Epsom Hospital are swapping their scrubs for walking boots to take on a sponsored walk, all in aid of their patients.
The Mary Seacole Unit is a fully integrated unit, providing inpatient frailty and rehabilitation services for local people. With 38 beds, it’s a busy unit with an amazing staff team who are going above and beyond.
The group- made up of nurses, healthcare assistants, therapists, and administrative staff, will walk from the Mary Seacole Unit to Dorking Town Hall, via the stepping stones and Box Hill. The route has been chosen to reflect some of the mobility challenges their patients face as they recover from illness and injury.
Their goal? To raise funds that will help make the unit more dementia and frailty friendly, improving the ward environment and providing stimulating activities to support patients during their hospital stay.
“We’re excited but also nervous” Jennifer Arthur, Specialist Frailty Clinical Discharge Co-Ordinator Nurse shared with us. “This challenge will help us reflect on the barriers our patients overcome every day. We’re doing this to raise awareness and funds.”
To those considering making a donation, the team says:
“Thank you. Your support means so much, and our patients will benefit deeply from your generosity.”
