The iconic Abseil St Helier event is back for a second year in 2026. You can join in the fun, and take the plunge down the front of St Helier Hospital whilst raising funds to support your local hospital.

Last year, we had over 115 participants get involved and raised over £50,000. This year we hope to make the event bigger and better than before, and hope we may get enough people to go across two days! By taking part you’ll be supporting patients, their families and our NHS staff by raising funds to support various projects across our hospitals.

We now have a confirmed date of Thursday 18 June with timeslots throughout the day. You will be required to pay a registration fee to secure your place, and then fundraise for our hospitals.

Absolutely! You can raise money to support the ward, department or speciality that means the most to you. It’s best to get in touch with us first and let us know where you would like to direct your fundraising and we will ensure we put it towards the fund of your choice. 

Don’t worry about practicing and no prior experience is required. You will be fitted with all the equipment you need and given full instructions on the day. They will brief you fully and answer any questions you may have.

The minimum age for participants is 12 years old, although anyone under 15 will require parent/guardian consent, and a chaperone on the day up to the roof.


The minimum weight is 35kg (4.7 stone) and the maximum weight limit is 120kg (18.9 stone). Waist harnesses fit waist size of 40cm (15.7 inches) to 125cm (49.2 inches).

If you’d like to Abseil, we’ll do our best to support you but your safety is our top priority. Please read the Health Warning Notice before signing up.

The actual Abseil itself won’t take you long, but you will need to come and register, get harnessed up and make your way up to the roof. You’ll be in a larger group, so it depends if you go first or last. We advise leaving at least 90 minutes available from start to finish.

Yes! Absolutely- there will be two lines on the day, so you can choose a friend to Abseil with. We can also group friends together, when you register you will have the option to select chosen timeslots and mention names of your group.

Please note that each participant has a minimum sponsorship per person, not per group.

We aim for the event to go ahead no matter what the weather, come rain or shine. The safety of our participants, staff and patients is of upmost priority, so we will assess and keep you up to date.
