Carol singing mix-up turns into a Joyful night of community spirit at Epsom station
A double booking at Epsom Station last night led to an unlikely yet heart-warming collaboration between two local charities, after both arrived ready to sing Christmas carols and fundraise for their causes.
Instead of cancelling, both charities came together to create a shared evening of festive music that lifted spirits and brought Christmas cheer to commuters.
The 3rd Epsom (St Martin’s) Scout Group and 1st Epsom (St Martin’s) Brownie Group were raising money towards building a much-needed new HQ. The groups have launched a community proposal to create a safe, modern space for scouting activities, youth development, and local events. You can find more information about their plans and making a donation here Have Your Say Today – – Your Fund Surrey Project Proposals or here www.3rdepsom.org.uk
Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity were collecting funds to support patients and families who will be spending Christmas in hospital this year. Donations help provide presents for children on the wards, decorations to brighten clinical spaces, and even a free Christmas Day meal for dedicated staff giving up their holiday to care for others.

What could have been an awkward mix-up soon became a magical moment of community unity. Children from the Scouts, Beavers and Cubs joined voices with the Epsom Male Voice Choir, creating an inter-generational chorus of festive favourites. Commuters paused to listen, sing along and donate, with a highlight of the night being a lively rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” that had everyone smiling.
These misunderstandings do happen, and both charities are incredibly grateful for the support they received on the evening. However, as donations were divided on the night, both organisations are making a friendly plea to anyone who may still wish to contribute and help make up the difference.
Every donation will go directly to supporting our Epsom community.
Please consider donating today to help both amazing local causes continue their important work. Thank you for supporting your community this Christmas. Together, we can make a real difference.
